Thunderstorms on Earth produce around 50 lightning flashes per second, generating electromagnetic waves that circle the Earth between the surface and the ionosphere. When certain waves with the right wavelength combine in this cavity, they create a repeated atmospheric heartbeat known as the Schumann resonance. The Schumann resonance has an extremely low frequency of 7.83 hertz and serves as a mesmerizing rhythmic phenomenon that reflects the connection between lightning and Earth's atmospheric pulse.
