To reach Rabdenste palace, it requires to do a trek for 20 mins through the deep jungle where you will get to see some amazing and beautiful Himalayan birds. Tucked away in the western region of Sikkim are the ruins of a once-glorious city that is often referred to as India’s own Machu Picchu. What remains of Rabdentse, regarded as the second capital of Sikkim till the 19th century, are memories cast in stone walls. The well-maintained site overlooks the mountains and valleys of West Sikkim below, which only adds to its overall majesty. Although it is a shadow of the past, it reflects the elegance and deep-rooted spirituality of an erstwhile city of royals.

Rabdentse, located near Pelling and in the West Sikkim district was established by Tensung Namgyal, the son of Phunstog Namgyal, the first Chogyal of Sikkim and remained the second city of the erstwhile kingdom of Sikkim for over a century. The city was destroyed by the invading Gurkha army in the 18th Century and today, its ruins stand as a sentinel of its regal past.
