We started off as a four man team, but due to injury, we were reduced to two. Marc and I managed to finish the 91.57 km (56.9 miles) route in 5 hours 16 mins. Our cycle began at the Welsh border, just outside Anchor, and we cycled toward Rhayader, via the Gilfach Nature Reserve
before taking the National Cycle Route 81, through the Elan Valley, passing the Cwmystwyth Lead Mine Workings, visiting the Devils Bridge Falls, before heading via the A4120 to Aberystwyth.
My e-bike battery which has a range of 75 miles gave up the ghost after 25 miles. I'm guessing the 75 miles weren't including Welsh miles. The secondary battery refused to work. You don't realise how heavy a 20kg bike is until you have to slog it up a Welsh mountain!
From where we turn off out of Rhayader to the top of that first big hill, is 892ft of climb over 3.6 miles which is an average gradient of 5%, with the steepest section being approximately 10% for over half a mile.
All in all, a great day, riding through some amazingly beautiful countryside. Will definitely do it again (on a better bike) hopefully with the original four man team at some point.
