Mount Shuksan is one of the most beautiful, and most photographed mountains in the lower 48. Its position just inside the boundaries of North Cascades National Park makes it one of the best kept secrets of the national parks.
Climbing the mountain from the Sulfide Glacier is the easiest option, although this is not without significant risk, as it is glacier travel after all.
The climb can be done as a daytrip, or as an overnighter. I chose the former option and chose to get an early start. Roundtrip, the climb took me about 8 hours & my rapid movement was largely due to the constant threat of inclement conditions on the glacier.
North Cascades is a spectacular park, and both hiking and climbing options abound. Clear lakes and rivers provide plenty of recreational opportunities on the water and the park is great for a simple scenic drive as well.
