I'm proud to present this original tune, Vandalia Rag. I've worked hard on it for quite awhile. In its basic form, it's a pretty simple tune, but as usual, I had to make it fancy. It starts out copying a common rag inflected fiddle tune, Ragtime Annie, but quickly gets a bit jazzier (for musicians--it's a D diminished chord). I named it for the Vandalia Gathering, an annual traditional music, dance, storytelling, and crafts celebration held on the WV State Capitol grounds each Memorial Day Weekend (except sadly in 2020), since 1977. I included some photos of it in the video. Vandalia was one of the names put forward as a possible name of the state formed in 1863 by seceding from Virginia during the Civil War--West Virginia.
