What Camerons Car Reviews has to say about the Outlander: For 2014 the Mistubishi Outlander is full redesigned boasting much needed improvements. The Outlander debuted in the North American market in 2003 and has did dismal in terms of sales compared to other crossovers, however the Outlander is one of Mitsubishi's top selling models. The Outlander has a wide range of powertrain options available most of them are going to be had with a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) Automatic, these powertrains include a 2.4 L 4-Cylinder, a 2.0 L 4-Cylinder Hybrid, and a 3.0 L V6 which is made exclusively into a 6-Speed Automatic. These powertrains also get decent fuel economy as well with the 4-cylinder earning up to 31 MPG on the Highway, however the 4-Cylinder only has 166 Horsepower on tap and the V6 has 224 HP with fuel economy being up to 28 MPG. With that said the Outlander has very underwhelming performance. On the interior of the Outlander you will find it to be very family oriented and soft touch materials are evident, with the utilitarian design being absent. On the exterior it's either love it or hate it styling as the new Outlander takes a more conservative look, but still keeping some flare that is in the outgoing model. Compared to it's competitors the Outlander is slotted between a Ford Escape and a Ford Explorer as it is in the midsize crossover segment, but it can compete with a small crossover and a full size crossover. The price is significantly cheaper than a full size crossover, but it has the room of a full size crossover and the Outlander is significantly smaller than a compact crossover as the Mitsubishi's own Outlander Sport directly competes in that segment, with this said the Outlander is up to the consumers to really decide what it directly competes with as there is a very vast amount of competitors. So does the Outlander have enough to compete? Yes, the Outlander's great MPG and wide variety of powertrains as well as a consumer friendly price make it a top choice in the crossover segment, but the underwhelming performance could stop it from selling, but really it's not about peformance these days its all about MPG.
