The South of Madagascar is highly exposed to recurrent risks of food insecurity. Considering the results of the IPC (Integrated Food Security Classification Framework) analysis, the food situation in the Great South is alarming.
Indeed, 20% of the population is 330 000 people are in emergency (phase 4) and 35% of the population is 515 000 people are classified in crisis (phase 3). Women and children are among the most vulnerable in this situation. Humanitarian actions for children are defined in the "Core Commitments for Children" (CCC) for UNICEF and its partners. In this context, multi-sectoral rapid assessments have been carried out or underway for the different clusters; many humanitarian actors are also hard at work in this part of the island through different types of emergency interventions.
To cope with the situation, UNICEF intervenes in several sectors in particular in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene. These interventions are divided into several branches: drinking water supply, drilling, construction of WASH infrastructure (pipeline, water point, ...), distribution of WASH kits, drinking water distribution, CLTS, Wash at school level and health centers.
