A pioneering AI camera, called the Heads-Up machine, is being tested in Devon and Cornwall to detect impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This state-of-the-art technology can identify road behavior typical of impaired driving, prompting police to stop the vehicle for roadside testing. The camera can be moved discreetly across roads, allowing officers to catch offenders without prior warning. The initiative is part of the Vision Zero South West partnership, aiming to reduce road fatalities. With drink-driving being a significant cause of fatal crashes, police hope the AI camera will help save lives and enhance road safety.
