Changed the transmission oil after 186000km. Fair amount of metal particles in the oil & there is no filter to remove them just like on every other manual transmission. Mercedes states the transmission oil in the Smart Fortwo is good for the life of the car. How ever long that is. Most likely what Mercedes means by life time is until the warranty has expired. If you intend to keep your Smart for an extended duration, change the transmission oil to extend the life of your transmission. Easy to do & it is only 1.5l of oil..
