I recently treated myself to a couple of new art books and two of them were about the art of David Hockney. As I was looking through the books I noticed 3 concepts that were especially powerful and helpful to creating memorable and interesting work.
In this video I want to break them down and share them with you, along with practical examples - so you can decide if you want to use them in your own work.
Artists have always looked to other artists for inspiration and most artwork is built on those who came before. Of course I am no different and I’m constantly looking to learn from others and to be inspired. And if you are anything like me - it’s your curiosity and desire to learn and improve that powers the engine.
Whether or not you are a fan of Hockney's art or not you can’t help but be impressed by his very Prolific art routine. He is known to be working almost constantly and still at a ripe old age. He just turned 86 this summer. Furthermore he’s known to be Constantly searching for new ways of expressing himself through new media such as video and iPad drawings..
Biggest take-away was this:: David Hockney is constantly renewing himself and lettering an open mind and curiosity lead the way.
If you take nothing else from this video, take this = please stay curious - listen to your curiosity and let it be your catalyst to keep evolving as a painter. Try and put the FUN back into painting!
If you do, you will continually improve and you’ll NEVER be bored :)
