When possible we prefer to use the Schluter foam pan for our shower installation. The foam tray includes a sheet of Kerdi paper that will cover the entire pan without a seam. Often we have to cut our pan down so that it fits, if more than 4” is cut off the foam pan you have enough Kerdi paper to also band your walls. We like not having unnecessary buildup in the corner so we cut the Kerdi paper 2.25” away from the corner each way. This maintains our 2” overlap rule without having too many laps.
