The Sega Mega Drive (メガドライブ) was released in Japan in 1988, then in 1989 in North America under the name Sega Genesis. Europe & Pal territories followed in 1990 such as Brazil. In South Korea, it was distributed and rebranded under Samsung as the Super Gam*Boy and later the Super Aladdin Boy.
In this video, I show what kind of basic physical region lock Sega had at that time, both on the cartridge slot and cartridges shape.
In a second part of the video, I show the different options that existed to go around it, including butchering Japanese cartridges with a file or saw!
