Sustainable drinking water solution for the Athiyanam village in Vellore, India
Due to long-term drought and lack of proper water infrastructure, Athiyanam, a small village in Southern India, was facing many challenges accessing clean drinking water. The country of India is facing water shortages throughout the country. Environmental degradation, population growth, poor infrastructure and water pollution are all factors that fuel the growing nationwide water crisis in India. Villages tucked in rural parts of India like Athiyanam, are those who are hit the hardest.
The International Justice Mission (IJM) is a global organization committed to ending slavery. With five offices in India, IJM partners with local governments to specifically address human trafficking. As part of their bonded labor survivor rehabilitation efforts, IJM identified Athiyanam, as one of the villages being in the most need of relief and in desperate need of a sustainable drinking water solution.
Funded by the SWELECT’s CSR efforts, the International Justice Mission partnered with SOURCE Water to install a SOURCE Hydropanel array in the heart of the community. The village now has a safe, resilient supply of SOURCE drinking water to sustain the families living there.
