Monday, May 27, 2002. Game 4 of the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals between the New Jersey Nets & the Boston Celtics at the Fleet Center. Gutsy move by Nets’ head coach Byron Scott, who calls for his very last timeout right before Celtics’ superstar Paul Pierce takes 2 potential game-tying free throws with just 1.1 seconds left in regulation, giving up the chance to advance the ball had he made both in an ultimately successful attempt to ice him. After coming up short on his 1st try, Pierce would intentionally miss on the 2nd, but the follow by Tony Battie at the buzzer wouldn’t go, & New Jersey finally escaped with the split on the road & a 2-2 series tie.
