The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was a trilateral trade agreement between the United States, Canada, and Mexico that eliminated most tariffs on goods traded among the three countries. NAFTA was implemented in 1994 and remained in effect until it was replaced by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in 2020. The USMCA maintained many of the key provisions of NAFTA while also adding new provisions aimed at promoting more balanced trade and improving labor and environmental standards.
