This was a filmed on a fast service from London to Southampton which operate every half hour from Waterloo along the SWML. The other fast Southampton service calls at Clapham Junction and Basingstoke instead Woking and runs through to Weymouth via Bournemouth becoming a semi fast service after Southampton Central where as this service which currently terminates at Poole remains a fast service throughout. In the full timetable this service also operates as a London Waterloo to Weymouth service.

Services on this route are all operated by South Western Railway from London Waterloo to Basingstoke with some services on the fast lines leaving the SWML after Woking to use the Portsmouth direct line via Guildford. Services from Waterloo to Southampton operate every half hour with the full normal timetable including an additional slower service which is overtaken at Eastleigh. There is currently a third service from London to Winchester which operates as a semi fast service (calling at Farnborough) from Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo via Basingstoke. Additional services operate from London to Basingstoke as fast services to and from Salisbury/Yeovil Junction/Exeter St Davids which are class 159 operated and slower services calling at all stations between Woking and Basingstoke operated by class 450 units. There is 1 Cross Country train each hour between Basingstoke and Southampton which is part of the Manchester Piccadilly to Bournemouth via Reading service.

This route is 4 track throughout between London and Basingstoke (8 tracks London to Clapham Junction with 4 for Windsor line services) with the route being mostly 2 tracked Basingstoke to Southampton. At Southampton the approach section from St Denys to Central is shared with other SWR services as well as services operated by Cross Country, Great Western Railway and Southern. Southern provide alternate services from Southampton Central to London via Gatwick Airport to London Victoria station but these take over an hour longer than the SWR services on this route. The entire SWML is fully electrified using 3rd rail DC electrification which does limit any future improvements to a 100mph top speed unlike many other express/intercity routes from other London terminals.
