A standoff in the Senate could throw a spanner in the works for the Albanese government's quest to force a clean-up of the CFMEU.
It wants the Coalition and the Greens to back its bill to send in a union administrator, but even an offer of extra sweeteners has so far failed to win their support.
Meanwhile, a video obtained by the ABC of an incident involving CFMEU members speaks to the conduct many in the sector fear.
The video shows members of the union's Queensland branch clashing with members of a rival union, the Australian Workers Union (AWU), at a Brisbane construction site.
It appears to show AWU workers' cars surrounded by CFMEU members hurling abuse and trying to intimidate the workers as they entered the site.
