The R/V Sikuliaq is conducting its final trials in the Bering Sea. Roger Topp, head of exhibits and digital media production at the UA Museum of the North, is on board the ship to document its work in Arctic waters. In this video, the crew has left three cameras behind on the ice in two positions, aimed at recording the swells running through the ice floe, the ship reversing so it could make a run at the line and the ridge and the cameras — at speed. You can see a pulse of dark smoke leave the stacks as the ship gets underway. As it reverses, the ice knife (below the waterline) leaves a mark in the shape of an arrow.
