(13 Sep 2012) Several dozen members of the Islamic Movement in Israel gathered outside the US Embassy in Tel Aviv on Thursday to protest about an anti-Muslim film that has sparked anger across the region.
The film "Innocence of Muslims," mocks Muslims and the prophet Muhammad.
It has been blamed for inflaming mobs that attacked US missions in Egypt and Libya this week as well as the US Embassy in Yemen on Thursday.
The protesters held banners declaring the film an "act of hatred to Islam and Muslims."
Zahi Nujeidat, a spokesperson for the Islamic Movement, said the film was an "insult, not a freedom of speech."
The film was implicated in protests that resulted in the burning of the US consulate on Tuesday in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.
Libyan officials said on Wednesday that Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other embassy employees were killed during the violence.
However, US officials now say they are investigating whether the assault was a planned strike linked to Tuesday's 11-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
