Description:
In this video we'll have a look on the megaproject which aims to link Finland's capital, Helsinki with Estonia's capital, Tallinn. The two cities are separated by the Gulf of Finland which at it's narrowest point is only 50 kilometers wide. Also the water is very shallow so the idea of a tunnel linking the two cities is very plausible.
We'll talk more about all of this in this video, so make sure you do not miss it.
Feel free to write your opinion about this in the commnets.
Hope you'll enjoy the video!

Transcript:
Finland and Estonia are planning the construction of a tunnel that will link their capitals: Helsinki and Tallinn. The two countries are separated by the Gulf of Finland which is actually very shallow with an average depth of just 38 meters. At it’s narrowest point, the Gulf of Finland is just 50 kilometers wide.
The rail line in the tunnel will have 4 main stations. The tiny finish island of Uppoluoto will be extended and the shallow Estonian riff of tallinnamadal will be transformed in an island.
The purpose of this project is to shorten the time between Helsinki and Tallinn with one and a half hours and to also connect Finland to the Railbaltica, the 870 kilometers long railway connecting the Baltic states with Poland and the rest of Europe. This will help NATO to secure it’s eastern flank against the Russian threat. The estimated cost of this tunnel is 20 billion euros, but as both countries are EU members, a part of it will be subsidized by the European Union.
