A lady had a “PRP facelift”, but didn’t notice any changes to her face. The treatment consisted of a few platelet-rich plasma injections around her eyes, and microneedling of PRP on her face. The dermatologist’s assistants told her she would see results quickly, maybe even the next day.
New York Oculofacial plastic surgeon and Vampire Facelift® Network member Amiya Prasad, MDr reviews her concerns in this video, explaining how the Vampire Facelift® or PRP injections cannot take the place of a facelift, but does add volume and improves skin quality:
1:16 - Dr. Prasad’s background training and his experience with PRP which he administers to patients every day, from hair loss, wound healing, scar treatment, hollow eyes, and complexion improvement
2:11 - How the word “facelift” has been used too liberally in non-surgical treatments, including the Vampire Facelift, but facelift really means lifting skin and soft tissue surgically
2:50 - How the Vampire Facelift® is a combination of PRP and a hyaluronic acid filler like Restylane in very specific areas, ideally used by women in their 40s with reasonable facial structure, but with some volume loss, and also want to improve complexion
3:30 - How a PRP facelift would not lift the face, but improve skin quality, add some volume, and lift the face away from the underlying skin to make it look brighter
3:58 - How the dermatologist's assistants may have been mistaken in results being seen the next day, when in fact they were describing an improved glow to the skin the next day
4:15 - How distinguishing what happens to the skin when PRP is injected under the skin, and what happens after microneedling is important
4:25 - How PRP injected under the skin improves circulation and quality of fat cells, collagen production, and improved blood supply, which takes about two weeks to see this result, in some patients a week, but rarely does this happen by the next day
5:19 - How PRP in microneedling needs about a week of healing time to treat fine lines and discolorations
5:50 - Why it is important to not expect PRP injections or in microneedling to have the same results as a facelift which leads to disappointment
5:55 - How Dr. Prasad sees PRP and microneedling to be limited to the top layer to the deeper levels of the skin
6:09 - How volume correction still needs filler, and lifting sagging skin still needs surgery
6:18 - How some miscommunication likely happened with the doctor based on misuse of the term facelift, so a follow-up is needed to talk about expected results
