The Albert W. Johnson University Research Lectureship is awarded annually to an SDSU faculty member for outstanding achievement in research and scholarship. The Lectureship is the University's highest recognition of research and scholarly achievement. The Division for Research and Innovation sponsors the Lectureship with funding partially endowed through the Albert W. Johnson fund.
The recipient is named a Distinguished Professor to recognize them as a senior faculty member who is nationally and internationally renowned for their innovative body of work and its transformational impact on the field.

The inaugural Outstanding Scholar Awards were given to faculty and postdoctoral fellows whose work exemplified artistry, creativity, innovation, public impact and excellence in mentorship.
Awardees were selected from across the College of Arts and Letters, College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts, College of Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, and SDSU Imperial Valley.
