A Republican senator has managed a nearly 13-hour filibuster to block the confirmation of President Obama's pick for CIA director.
Rand Paul mounted his marathon Senate speech against John Brennan's appointment, after the White House refused to unequivocally rule out drone strikes on US soil.
He finally yielded to a round of applause from GOP colleagues.
"I've discovered that there are some limits to filibustering and I'm going to have to take care of one of those in a few minutes here," he joked.
