WARNING: LONG VIDEO: NO TALKING, ONLY GUITARING.
This is literally the very first 30 minutes I spent with the MixWave Benson Chimera Plugin. Sound is recorded direct from the quicktime plugin. Signal chain is: Gibson 335, Line6 HX Stomp (USED ONLY AS AUDIO INTERFACE, the signal path within the Stomp is completely dry), Garage Band, MixWave Benson Chimera, monitored direct from HX Stomp through Fiio FH5 IEMs. Emphasis that this video is unedited for a reason, to demonstrate the sound of the "amp" as closely as possible.
Apologies for the weird bits of silence, sloppy playing, and no verbal commentary. I will somehow make chapters in this video to mark the moments when I audibly gasped and shouted "oh shit!"
This thing sounds good, dangerously good. I also play through a Revv D20+pedalboard that I monitor through the built in headphone out, and record with the built in line out. (Just sold my 1x12 cab, so IEM monitoring is a reality for me going forward). Also part of my digital portfolio is the Neural DSP Archetype Cory Wong plugin and the HX Stomp (obviously talking about its built in modeling).
A part of me wants to remain neutral and say something like "these are all just different tools that achieve different flavors," but honestly: MixWave Benson Chimera Plugin sounds the BEST out of all my options. That is, for my specific kind of music that I play. It might not work well for the kind of music you play, but that's what makes guitar such a beautiful instrument.
Well done MixWave, I am totally thrilled with how this really captured the sound and feel of an amp. I've never played a Benson in real life, which is on the bucket list, but this was a damn good plugin regardless.
