Carla: Carla here with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Konig self-tensioning snow tire chains. These are the low-pro chains on our 2020 Ford Ranger. So let's go ahead and show you why they're my favorite chains. Basically, to release these, all you have to do is press down here. And that'll release the tension.
You basically can take them off from there. They're super easy to put on. Once you drape them over, again, all you have to do is use your foot to apply the tension and you're ready to hit the road. So our Konig low-pro chains are going to feature a D-style link as well as a diamond pattern. As you can see right here, we have a diamond shape, which is superior than the ladder style, because it provides you with extra traction in the center of the tread.
Over here, as we move closer, we're going to see our icebreakers. And those are going to be protecting our tensioning line right here, which is how your chains are going to be tension on your tire.All right. So although these are integrated, these tensions are integrated into the chain, they are adjustable. So we can go ahead and clip them, hook them to the best portion. Now these can be tightened more as you drive.
So you want to make sure you drive first and then readjust these afterwards. All right. So these chains are going to come in this really, really nice case, which doubles as a kneeling mat. So we can open it up and show you. Right on the inside you're going to see printed instructions.
So you don't have to worry about getting a paper instructions wet, or then blowing away in the wind. They do come in a set of two for one axle and they do come with a five-year warranty, which is really a way longer time than most other chains out there. So as we all know, the second time around, we do something, it gets much easier.So I would strongly suggest you put these on the very first time when you're in your garage or somewhere out of the inclement weather. And one more thing to point out, these do have a speed rating of 30 miles per hour. So don't go over that. All right. So let's go ahead and get these installed. First things first. Normally we would lay them flat. With these chains, it's kind of hard. So we're going to just go ahead and hold them up and make sure that there are no kinks or anything. With these being new, I'm not going to worry about any broken links, so let's go ahead and put them on. All right. So to put them on, just go ahead and drape them over. We're going to go ahead and make sure that this part is on the back of the tire and can center the chains on the tread here. And move on to the back side.All right. So once this is in place, the last thing you want to check to make sure this red wire is tucked under. And this is behind the tire. With that like that we can just go ahead and stand up, pull this down. Then use our foot to get it like that. So you can see this back here has a nylon backing, so it's not going to scratch. It's not going to be metal and metal contact on your rims. And it's got built-in tensioners. So one thing I do want to mention is that when you do drive forward to tension these, this red wire, it's just going to pull in and get you the tension that you need. So we'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side. All right. Since we got both sides installed now we can go ahead and hit the road.
