The prosperous families in Tana Toraja and North Toraja Regencies commonly lay down to rest their beloved deceased ones in the hill or in a carved stones in higher ground. Due to their limited financial resources, ordinary people may lay down to rest their family members in a "public" cemetery.
One special spot in the Holy Family Pilgrim's Sapak Bayobayo depicts a location of "public" cemetery where human remains are preserved and respected by worshippers by their recitation the Way of the Cross.
