The Kremlin says Russian President Vladimir Putin will recognize the independence of 2 regions in Eastern Ukraine. President Putin made the remarks over Russian television. The move opens the possibility of the Kremlin sending weapons to the Eastern part of Ukraine. European leaders had hoped he would not recognize the 2 regions. It is possible the EU will not pursue sanctions on Moscow. International Affiliate Reporter for the Associated Press, Philip Crowther, joins to give us an update on the current situation regarding Russia. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned last week that if Russian President Putin recognized the independence of separatist regions in Ukraine, that it would be met with a "swift response." Crowther talks about the significance of President Putin recognizing these regions and whether it is escalating the tensions. Crowther shares how leaders in NATO are reacting. He discusses how imminent an invasion feels from his vantage point in Ukraine.
