(17 Oct 2013) Australia's Governor General met China's top leadership in Beijing on Thursday as part of her nine-day state visit to China.
Quentin Bryce was received with a welcome ceremony at Beijing's Great Hall of the People, near Tiananmen Square, and reviewed the guard of honour alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Bryce then held a brief discussion with Xi and a second meeting with the country's Premier, Li Keqiang.
An Australian Embassy spokesperson in Beijing said Bryce's state visit to China, her first, would focus on both country's growing links in commerce, education and culture.
Bryce's visit will include stops in Beijing, Tianjin, Xi'an, Guilin and Chengdu.
She was also scheduled to assist an art exhibition and the opening of a steel factory, the Australian Embassy in Beijing said.
The Governor General of Australia is the Queen's representative in Australia.
