A short review of the 2022 Release of the Athearn Ready To Roll EMD SD60.
This unit is decorated for the Oakway Leasing scheme. It was purchased DC only and a Soundtraxx 21pin EMD-2 Decoder was plugged into the 21pin quick plug on the unit. The sounds are set to the prototypical EMD 16 cylinder 710G which is offered on Soundtraxx’s EMD-2 decoder. This SD60 also features an iPhone 6s speaker for superior sound quality over many commercially available model railroading speakers.
The beacon has a new led installed at the base of the globe unlike the LED from the factory installed further down with a light tube going inside the beacon. It was not as bright as I had liked so I did this modification which took a little bit of carful work but was well worth it in my opinion.
