UN aid in Madaya
Aid agencies are preparing to deliver food to the besieged town of Madaya and two other towns in Idlib Province on Monday morning. They reached a deal to deliver aid late last week. Aid group Doctors Without Borders, says 23 people in the town of more than 40-thousand died from starvation last month alone. The UN says the Syrian War has killed at least 250-thousand people and displaced half the country’s population. The war is now into its fifth year.
Doctors Without Borders hospital bombed
Doctors Without Borders says a rocket that hit one of its hospitals in Saada has killed at least four people and injured 10 others. The aid group called the attack the ‘third serious incident’ on its facilities in Yemen in the last three months. In October, the group accused the Saudi-led coalition of bombing another of its hospitals in Saada. The area is controlled by Houthis, who are backed by Iran. The Coalition denied it bombed the hospital. Doctors Without Borders says it gives all groups involved in the Yemen conflict coordinates to its facilities.
El Chapo’s extradition process starts
Mexican authorities have begun the process to extradite drug boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the US. He escaped from maximum security prison in July by digging a tunnel through his shower. Police recaptured him two days ago. They were able to find him because he’d been in contact with movie producers and actor Sean Penn. He’d wanted to make a movie about his life. This was the second time Guzman escaped from prison. His first escape was in 2001.
David Bowie dies
David Bowie has died from cancer at the age of 69. Bowie was famous for his eclectic styles that involved glam rock, punk and electronica, as well as his onstage persona, Ziggy Stardust. His career spanned forty years and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
