Rahul Bhat, who was a government employee at Chadoora Tehsil Office, was shot at on Thursday following which he fataly injured. He was rushed to Srinagar's SMHS hospital after his killers left but he was declared dead on arrival.

Just five minutes before he was shot, Rahul had spoken to his wife Meenakshi on the phone, who had asked him to come home and he had said 'yes'. But just minutes later, she got the news of his murder, Meenaskhi told a TV channel as she broke down and cried inconsolably.

The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led administration has stated that killers of Rahul Bhat will have to pay a heavy price as he announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team to probe the killing. He also said the administration would provide government job to Rahul Bhat's wife and financial assistance to the family. He said that the administration is working on to provide safe and secure accommodation to the KPs, working under Prime Minister’s Rehabilitation Package in Kashmir besides streamlining their postings. But the situation at this point remains grim, as this news has once again unsettled the delicate communal fabric of the valley.
