Vlog Ep.105 - Week 35/52 - September - 2016
Hello you! This week we become tourists in my home town of Burton on Trent and visit The National Brewery Centre.
Before I moved to Bangkok I had spent most of my life in this small town and, like many people in many places, I never really knew what was special about it. I'm sure you know what I mean: adventures and interesting things are 'out there' and never in our own back yard.
Moving to Bangkok changed how Jade and I see places and since we've been back we've been on a bit of a mission to see more, do more and appreciate more.
So it turns out that this humble town of Burton on Trent was, at its peak, once responsible for producing one quarter of all the beer sold in Britain. I found this to be an amazing fact but even more so after our tour guide told us the history or brewing in the town.
Trains, boats, steam machinery, horses and a huge workforce all came together to create a drink we now take for granted. So why was Burton the perfect place to brew beer? It was all about the quality of the local water.
It's fascinating to learn about all the skills, techniques and thought that had to go into the process.
This entire experience has given me a huge appreciation for the art of brewing and I'm really excited to get out there and try some of the micro-breweries in the area.
... Perhaps I could even get Jade to taste test them too!
Have an awesome week!
