When a creditor/vendor (mortgage lender, auto dealer, etc) runs your credit report, the credit bureaus sell this information to other creditors. It’s a way of letting these other creditors/vendors know you are in the market to make purchases like a home or car for example. These other vendors now start calling you off the hook to solicit you.
In our world we call these “trigger leads”. Essentially your credit inquiry “triggers” notification to other vendors to call you to obtain your business. This is a very profitable business for Transunion, Equifax, and Experian and their affiliates.
The is an annoyance and its frustrating to everyone involved. As a lender we need to run your credit to determine your loan eligibility. As a client you should be able to have your credit ran without being harassed and concerned about your privacy.
