This is the "first ever" reading of the "Clear Quran" English Translation of Surah Baqarah by Dr. Mustafa Khatab. Unlike the Sahih International translation, this is not a literal translation (it does contain implied meanings at points). Nonetheless, it is a clear, easy to follow translation, suitable for listening to on the go. Prior to this there was no reading of this particular translation by a human being.
Surah Al-Baqarah (meaning: "The Heifer" or "The Cow", arabic سورة البقره ) is the second and longest chapter of the Holy Quran. Surah Al Baqarah contains about 8 percent of the text of the entire Quran. It spans 2 and a half juzz of the Quran (juz 01 الٓمّٓ, juz 02 سَیَقُوْلُ, juz 03 تِلْكَ الرُّسُلُ). It is a Medinan surah for the most except for the last verses (284-286) which were revealed during the Farewell Pilgrimage in the 10th year of migration to Madinah. The name of Surah Al-Baqarah comes from the story of the heifer mentioned in verses 67 to 73. The subject matter of this long chapter, however, is varied. This single chapter is an encyclopaedia of knowledge about early Islam. Surah Al Baqarah contains a substantial number of clear verdicts by Allah Almighty concerning Islamic law. It retells the stories of the Prophets Adam, Ibrahim and Moses. Usury is cursed and condemned as injustice, fair trade and honest dealings are blessed. Rights of divorced women and orphans and other vulnerable sections of society are protected through divine commandments. Charity for the needy is urged multiple times and is even equated as a loan to Allah. Allah gaurentees to multiply the 'investor's' money in charity on the day of Judgement. There are also other interesting topics in long chapter. The reader is urged to listen to the complete audio once before diving into details. The subject matter makes more sense once the viewer gets familiar with its breadth and scope.
