Executions during the Tudor period were rather common but were also horrifically brutal and public spectacles. A huge crowd would always gather to watch someones last moments before they met their end in a grisly fashion with some condemned being beheaded with an axe, but others would face an even more savage end. Being hanged, drawn and quartered was one of the worst death sentences one could receive during the Medieval or Tudor period.

Saint Edmund Campion would be one of these victims. He was a rather well-educated and highly thought of scholar who would find his fame outside of the church which he initially invested himself in. He would leave England and would exit Elizabeth I's Anglican Church with him becoming a Jesuit Catholic Priest. He would become a Catholic preacher in England when it was most dangerous. During Elizabeth I's reign, she would try to stamp out the Catholic religion by banning public worship, but Campion flounced these rules.

He was arrested and imprisoned in the brutal Tower of London being accused of high treason. During his imprisonment he was also tortured using the Rack. He was eventually sentenced to death and was hanged, drawn and quartered in a bloodbath of an execution. His end was met with horror.
