This is my beginner entry into the Foundations Revealed Competition for 2021! This is my first complete garment, though I’ve made a LOT of masks over the last year.
It’s inspired by/ based on the smock Marthe made for Diana to wear to time-walk to 1590 (Chapter 42 of A Discovery of Witches). The book describes it as hand sewn from linen, however, and my smock is made of up-cycled cotton sheets and used machine-stitched French seams, though I did do the eyelets, cuffs, and hem by hand.
I have learned SO MUCH, and I am so thankful for the costube community and Facebook costuming groups for sharing their knowledge and lending their support! There are things I already plan to change (redoing the first cuff and hand felling the French seams for certain), but I am proud I was able to complete this project and complete it on time. Started research 1/5/21. Competed project 2/2/21.
