We love making soaps using melt-and-pour soap. It melts in the microwave so it’s fast and easy! And it is very easy to tint and add scent. And there are loads of molds to choose from. But our favorite thing about making homemade soaps is how our home smells from all the scented essential oils. It turns a craft day into a spa day!
Even if you’ve never made handmade soap before, you can do this craft. We will show you how to melt the soap, add the color, add the scent, and how to swirl two colors together.
In this video lesson we will show you everything you need to know to make your own swirly soaps using melt-and-pour soap. To make this project, you will need:
8 ounces of shea butter white soap base, soap colorant in red, orange, & yellow, orange bergamot essential oil, a flower soap mold, 2 Pyrex measuring cups, 2 chopsticks for stirring, a knife to cut the soap base into chunks, a cutting board, a microwave oven, and a spritzer bottle filled with rubbing alcohol.
In this video we will show you how to cut the soap base into one-ounce cubes, how to melt it in the microwave, and how to add color and scent. We will make two batches of soap so we can have two colors of soap to swirl together. Finally we will show you how to pour the two colors together into the mold and swirl with a chopstick.
Soap base comes in clear and white. For this project you need white in order for the colors to show. You can get melt and pour soap base at Amazon or at a craft store or bead store.
