Cataract is a phenomenon which occurs to all of us behind the age of 60. The lens inside the eye becomes opaque and is unable to transmit light efficiently onto the retina to obtain a clear image. Cataract surgery today is routinely performed via phacoemulsification in which the cataract is broken into small pieces with a ultrasonic probe which is aspirated out of the eye, after which an artificial intraocular lens is implanted.
Laser cataract surgery takes this one step further. In this method an advanced laser called the femtosecond laser performs the critical steps of the surgery , making the surgery more gentle , efficient and safe for the patient. Patients can expect a quick recovery to normal lifestyle activities after the procedure
