I continue to enjoy my Hauptwerk organ and my daily exploration and recording, frequently of pieces previously unknown to me. There is sometimes a feeling among organists that unless the pedals are being used, somehow, one is not playing 'properly'. I have frequently commented that there is a huge opus of original, worthy and often exciting music written for organ without pedal which often gets neglected. Most of this repertoire was written because organs at the time, or in that place, simply didn't have pedals. Here's a gorgeous piece I only discovered yesterday- Sonata in D Major by the Italian composer Andrea Luchesi 1741-1801 (Sonata in this context meaning 'for keyboard' as opposed to, for example Cantata 'for voices' ). Organs in Italy, at that time, often had only one manual with, perhaps, a few pedal 'pull downs' but possessed a wide range of stops providing a bright , crisp exciting sound. I'm playing this on Hauptwerk sample set of Giubiasco, Switzerland and here is a link setting out the specification and other details. [ Ссылка ]
