Grass weeds are increasing in importance on tillage farms, with brome, canary grass, wild oats and now black-grass all causing concern. Black grass in particular is a hugely challenging weed and it is making very worrying inroads in Ireland. It is imperative that we control this weed. In this video, Jimmy Staples the ECT grass weed project advisor outlines the actions to be taken to avoid seed return with grass weeds. These actions which must start in May can vary from hand rogueing to crop destruction. While crop destruction may seem drastic, it may be the best option in certain situations.
