Most hospitals in Dane County, Wisconsin are failing on Community Charity Care investments. That’s a finding from a new report that calls out many Dane County hospitals as failing to justify extensive tax breaks and effectively serve patients impacted by health disparities. ABC for Health, Inc. released the report in December titled "Access to Health Care & Coverage: ABC for Health, Inc. Recommendations for Dane County Hospitals." We review findings and shortcomings identified in the report, the initial intent of the report to inform the Community Health Needs Assessment process (and what happened), and statements from report authors.
