SYNOPSIS: It is an ethnographic film on Gonds of Bastar in Chattisgarh India, one of the largest indigenous groups of South Asia. The ancestry of this tribe can be traced to early African humans through various anthropological elements, as also showcased in the film.It is a nearly comprehensive study on the Gond Tribes of Bastar done via participant observation and quasi participant observation to put across an amalgamation of emic as well etic perspective via the audiovisual tools of filmmaking, presenting a social science objectivity from the POV of subject matter hypothesis of Gond culture and culture of ethnographic filmmaking. The film includes various elements that constitute a culture of an indigenous group, such as history, rock paintings, livelihood, music & dance, education system, birth/marriage/death ceremony, ancestral spirit calling etc.
INTENTION: This project has been made mainly for cultural & educational purposes. The prime intention is of recording and archiving the culture of Gond Tribes especially the Gotul Education System. Another intention is to showcase a side of Bastar that is completely detached from the current ideological warfare and shows the largest indigenous group in factually positive light. My intent is also to make the audience aware of the importance of the group in various important events such 'Out of Africa Movement' and 'Indian Independence'. I also intent to try to minimize the threat to indigenous knowledge system and reduce the risk of bio-cultural piracy.
