Firefighters in the western US state of Oregon on Saturday continued to struggle with a wildfire that has ravaged rural lands and destroyed homes.
Progress was being made in the fight against the so-called "Bootleg Fire", but less than half of it had been contained, fire officials said.
And although the growth of the sprawling fire had slowed, thousands of homes remained threatened on its eastern side, they added.
An official for the Oregon Department of Forestry said at least 67 homes had been destroyed, along with almost 120 outbuildings.
Speaking on the eastern flank of the fire, on a rim overlooking Paisley and Summer Lake, Marcus Kauffman said both communities had received evacuation orders.
Kauffman was surrounded by small fires, which he described as a so-called "slop over", when the fire crosses a containment line.
He said the creeping flames were likely to run out of fuel by the time they hit a nearby road.
More than 80 large wildfires are burning around the United States, most of them in western states.
All together, they have burned some 1.4 million acres (2,135 square miles or more than 553,000 hectares) of land.
