One of the movie series that has taken a lot of people by surprise and created a different atmosphere was the Game of Thrones movie and this mainly goes back to the story of the movie itself, the way it was filmed, as well as the locations it was filmed at, which one of them happened to be the Dark Hedges that is found in Northern Ireland ([ Ссылка ]).
Haven't you ever imagined yourself just standing in front of any those huge historical buildings, those long streets filled with huge trees, or even moving across the streets of a specific city which you are just watching on television? We have all been through this at least once before and one of those places we fell in love with was those scenes from the Game of Thrones movie which were taken in the Dark Hedges - where we visited and brought this video along with us.
This beautiful long avenue of beech trees is not something that is created recently but it was actually planted by the Stuart family back in the eighteenth century who intended to plant it in order to impress those visitors coming to their Georgian Mansion, the Gracehill House.
After all this time that passed since the plantation of those huge trees, almost two centuries, it has now become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland and has of course been the location where some scenes of the Game of the Thrones movie were taken.
Sometimes those old houses and places that stand from a long period of time carry some stories and legends that either make people more excited about visiting them or else make them scared from even coming any closer. The Dark Hedges in Northern Ireland stands in the second category, there is a legend that sometimes scares people away, or at least make the idea of passing through these trees in the night something which they will never think about doing.
The legend says that these hedges are visited by a ghost called the Grey Lady who flits from tree to tree across the road, people believe that it is the spirit of James Stuart daughter who was named Cross Peggy or the spirit of a maid who died in the house in a mysterious way, or else the spirit of an abandoned graveyard beneath the field, who in Halloween is joined on her visitation by other spirits from the graveyard.
The Dark Hedges of Northern Ireland are located along Bregagh Road between Armoy and Stanocum in County Antrim. This place has recently become a touristic attraction in Northern Ireland that a lot of people place on the list of things they should visit and check in this country whenever they come to spend a couple of days in ([ Ссылка ]).
Our trip was a little bit different because before going to have a walk through this street and move across those trees, we passed by a place to have a snack first, we headed to the Dark Hedges where we walked on our legs first and then moved across while driving the car, and then we visited a place where the kids could play a little bit - where they tried the experience of the Ghost Train for the first time, and we have to say that they were truly scared inside there.
Since this beautiful and different kind of trip - which was rated 10/5 from our older son but 2/5 from the younger one - and which was in County Antrim, there are different other destinations which one should recommend in this place as well; Antrim Castle Gardens should be on the list ([ Ссылка ]), Antrim Castle is definitely a must, Crumlin Glen will be a good choice for those who are always attracted to parks and nature in general, Antrim Round Tower will be also a good choice ([ Ссылка ]), the National Trust - Templetown, the Barbican Gate Lodge, the Clotworthy House and the Clothworthy Art Centre - we actually believe that these might always come on the list of things to visit in County Antrim, but some people might end up adding to them or else removing from them; it will all depend on the likes and dislikes of every single person and his/her personality.
Tourists always fall in love with history and its architecture and buildings, but what do you think about those places which come back to us from history but which are in some kind of way related to nature as well? Doesn't it all seem a little bit more interesting and exciting to know that those trees have been standing from centuries to grow and reach their size? We think that this was one of the different things that grabbed our attention while visiting the Dark Hedges and moving across those long and huge trees; we asked ourselves "have they really been living all that time?"
