STORYLINE:
A reinforced police presence across riot weary France over the weekend has seen a marked decrease in the overall crime figures.
As of the early hours of Sunday, 315 cars had been torched and 161 people arrested, well down on previous nights when more than a thousand cars were set alight.
Despite the boost in the numbers of police and firefighters, there continued to be some trouble spots, including Strasbourg where there was an increase in the number of vehicles burned.
Unrest was focused on the neighbourhood of Schiltigheim, where police said they believed the same gang of youths was responsible for the Saturday night's vandalism.
The riots have weakened in intensity since the government declared a state-of-emergency on Tuesday, empowering local authorities to invoke exceptional security measures such as curfews if deemed necessary.
Since the violence started on October 27, riots have been marked by hundreds of nightly arson attacks on vehicles as well as schools, gymnasiums and public transport.
On Saturday, arsonists set an electronics store on fire in Blangnac on the outskirts of Toulouse, but regional government officials said no one was injured.
As part of the weekend's boosted security reinforcement, extra police were positioned outside Stade de France sports stadium in Paris Saturday during a France / Germany "friendly" football match.
Thousands of Parisian police also guarded the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Elysees and train stations, as part of emergency measures enacted in response to text messages and Internet postings that called for "violent actions" in Paris.
In Toulouse, where much of the violence in the past two weeks has concentrated, police in the suburb of Mirail imposed a stop and search on vehicles.
Earlier, arsonists set fire to an electronics store in Blangnac on the outskirts of Toulouse but regional authorities say no one was injured.
