Helicopter Anti-Submarine Warfare Squadrons of the US Navy, flying the venerable H-3 Sea King, tirelessly hovered over the front lines of the Cold War for decades... and this is their untold story!
About the author: AMC (AW/NAC/MTS) Glen W. Mustian, retired from the US Navy in 2007, as a Chief Petty Officer. Chief Mustian served in both the Helicopter Anti-Submarine Warfare and Fleet Utility Squadrons, which employed the H-3 Sea King helicopter; in HS-10, HS-8, HS-1 and HC-2, from 1987 to 2002.
Logging nearly 3,000 flight hours in the aircraft, as a Naval Aircrewman/Rescue Swimmer and Flight Instructor, he also spent a significant amount of time as a Maintenance Technician, Plane Captain/LSE, Maintenance Control/Quality Assurance Rep, Operations Manager, and NATOPS Evaluator, over the course of his career.
Through this life-changing experience, he gained a profound admiration and respect for the men and women who worked on and flew this lovable cold war relic, and feels passionate about giving back to these communities he served in, by telling their stories.
If you also served in these communities during the time frame of the Cold War (1950-1990), and would like help in telling your story as well, provide some feedback in the comment section, and Glen will do his best to respond to your request.
