EPISODE 1 - Carnegie's Wild Ride is a photo-documentary series that explores the Carnegie libraries across the world. It is one part travelogue, one part history lesson, and one part slideshow. Through the series, we hope to create a complete and comprehensive history of the Carnegie libraries and the towns they inhabit. Follow along as we navigate and photograph the weird and often depressing world of Americana through the lens of public libraries.
Our first stop is the Illinois Valley. What was once the manufacturing nerve center of Illinois, and a hotbed for canal traffic, now struggles to pick itself up. I was in my backyard, yet I felt foreign and weird. My only reprieve was the libraries - these temples of knowledge.
