Building budget performance small block Mopar engines is just about my favorite thing in the world. These engines respond very well to basic hot rod modifications, and it's extremely rewarding to floor the loud pedal and burn rubber with an engine you pieced together yourself for almost no capital investment. Unfortunately, in the case of Mark's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda engine, the original goal of staying out of the bottom end of the engine and keeping things affordable is no longer achievable. And in the course of tearing this engine down, I found even more reasons why this engine was not a ready candidate for a horsepower build. In fact, the more of I see of it, the more surprised I am that it lived this long at all - and the happier I am that I didn't actually try to drive it home from the east coast.
