The Mallard is arguably the most easily recognised of the UK duck (Anas) species with the male's green head and white collar. The females can be identified by their bright blue speculum, orange bill and legs.
They are a resident species that breed throughout the entire UK habitat is suitable, however many of the wintering species fly south to the UK from Iceland and other parts of Northern Europe.
They are a typical dabbling duck that feeds on both flora and fauna such as invertebrates and shellfish/
