Jharkhand Congress Chief on Wednesday called the arrest of Jharkhand MLA Alamgir Alam "politically motivated" and accused centre of taking such actions only in the opposition-led states. "Whenever there is a panic situation, such kind of actions are taken in only opposition-led states. Such prosecutions seem completely politically motivated," said Rajesh Thakur. The statement came as a reaction after Enforcement Directorate Wednesday arrested Congress leader and Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam in a money laundering case days after a massive cash seizure from premises linked to his aide. The 70-year-old leader was taken into custody at the agency's zonal office in Ranchi under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He was interrogated for about six hours on the second day of questioning. He was grilled by the federal agency on Tuesday for over nine hours and his statement was also recorded. Alam represents the Pakur seat in Jharkhand assembly and is also the parliamentary affairs minister.
